OFFSCREEN : The Blindscript saga
Comprehensive competition guide, tournament bracket regulations, execution policies, fair play guidelines, and scoring criteria.
Event Overview
Offscreen: The Blind Script Saga is an elite high-stakes blind-coding tournament where contestants solve algorithmic challenges without being able to see their typed source code on the screen.
The competition pushes programmer capability to the limit, testing pure computational logic, keyboard spatial memory, concentration, syntax precision, offscreen debugging, and speed under extreme cognitive constraints.
Competition Structure & Tournament Bracket
The tournament consists of three progressively challenging elimination rounds. Each participant receives exactly one programming challenge per round assigned from the verified problem pool.
| Round | Stage Name | Duration | Progression Cut |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Blind Basics | 10 minutes | 60 → 25 Advance |
| 02 | Blind Logic | 10 minutes | 25 → 10 Advance |
| 03 | Blind Showdown | 15 minutes | 10 → Top 3 Champions |
- ✦No sudden-death round will be conducted.
- ✦Shared podium winners are permitted where the final objective performance warrants it.
Participation & Language Support
- ✦Assigned Identity: Contestants must participate exclusively using the Blind ID (BID) generated upon registration or assigned by event administrators.
- ✦Credential Confidentiality: Each contestant is strictly responsible for maintaining the privacy of their login credentials.
- ✦Hardware: Contestants use their own designated computer unless organizers explicitly provide alternative hardware.
Before Each Round (Pre-Round Protocol)
Blind Coding Rules & Allowed Controls
- • Write entire program from scratch
- • Standard keys:
Backspace,Enter,Tab,Arrowkeys - • Modifier combinations:
Shift,Ctrl-based shortcuts - • All programming brackets, quotes, operators, and semicolons
- • Copying or pasting text into the editor
- • AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Gemini, etc.)
- • External IDEs, Notepad, Word, or terminal shells
- • Documentation, search engines, or messaging apps
- • Switching browser tabs or windows
Event Integrity & Proctored Arena
The arena operates under strict invigilation standards to ensure pure merit and complete fairness for all competitors:
Submission Protocol & Execution Pipeline
“Submission successful. We will update you shortly.”Scoring Formula & Tie-Breaking Matrix
- ✦Partial marks are awarded based on unit tests passed out of total test vectors.
- ✦Final rankings and winner determinations may incorporate manual organizer verification.
Advancement & Elimination Thresholds
Shared winners are officially allowed if scores and tie-breaking metrics are identical. No forced sudden-death round will be imposed.
Results Policy & Leaderboard Visibility
To preserve psychological focus and prevent tactical stalling, contestants do not have access to a public real-time scoreboard during active competition rounds.
- ✦The live progress board is strictly restricted to administrator monitoring screens.
- ✦Organizers review all submissions, scores, and potential ties before publishing verified results.
- ✦Contestants can access their personal breakdown under the /result page after the round is officially published.
Technical Failure, Checkpoints & Recovery
Your active code is automatically saved periodically to ensure reliable protection against accidental drops.
If a browser tab reloads or crashes, logging back in restores your latest captured code snapshot.
If a confirmed hardware or power issue occurs, an invigilator can verify the issue and authorize a reset.
Disqualification Grounds & Enforcement
Maintaining fair and uncompromised competitive conditions is our top priority. Immediate disqualification may occur for:
- ⊗Using AI tools, language models, search engines, or compiler helpers.
- ⊗Opening background text editors, IDEs, scratchpads, or messaging clients.
- ⊗Attempting to inspect hidden elements, tampering with the platform, or unauthorized network requests.
- ⊗Collaborating with or communicating with other participants during an active round.
Contestant Responsibilities
Spirit of the Event
Offscreen is designed to measure algorithmic mastery under a deliberately unconventional constraint. Contestants are expected to compete honestly and independently. The objective is not merely to type code quickly, but to demonstrate that algorithmic logic, spatial memory, mental compilation, and concentration remain steadfast even when the code itself is offscreen.
